Leaving My Kiribati Home of Maiana- August 20, 2017

What up Fam and Friends! Mauri mauri! Kam uara?
Well yes as you can see i am leaving Maiana tomorrow. I fly into to Tarawa on Tuesday. Both me and.my comp are flying in and.there will be no elders on this.island for about 3 weeks until the new intake of 12 come in (ben udalls intake ans carson bowen).
I have no idea where i will be working, they dont tell us, they just called on saturday and said u guys are coming in on.tuesday. So i could be going to another outer island or stay on Tarawa, idk. President said to me in my email "I am very proud of the great work you have done on Maiana,.and am excited to talk to you this next week in Tarawa about your new assignment."
So we will see what my new "assignment" is.

This week was just classic missionary work, mixed in with service, training, and the first relief society activity here on Maiana!

There was one lady that we were studying with and two of our lessons we.invited her husband to lesson with us and he declined. But we all know the 3rd time is the charm! He accepted! Great guy. We had dinner with them that night and really got to knlw them.
One service project this week was cleaning out a well for an old man member (we lesson with his wife). You might think how the heck did they clean out a well, wells are deep. But remember im only like 3 feet above sea level lol, max of 6 ft. So the well wasnt deep and i stood in it and scraped out what i could and handed it.to my comp, elder Otto and then he dumped it out. Then we drained the water as fast as we could before the new water woukd seep in haha. (all wells are in the center of the island because.if.they arent they are salty). They rewarded us with some newly husked coconuts! I loooove coconuts, honestly i could drink.them all day. Soo good!

We also trained a new group leader this week to lead church in Bubutei. He is my recent convert, Tekitaa (the guitar is his name lol) (baptized the first of.july) he is a stud! He lead this sunday and killed it!
Now 3/4 groups have group leaders to lead the church. We had one for.the last group but he doesnt come to church and smokes a lot.
Lastly on saturday was the first Relief Society activity ever on Maiana! I didnt even plan it. I made my make shift relief society presidenct plan it. They came saturday morning to the chapel (stick chapel) and did yard work around it, weeding and planting flowers. It was a good.turnout! Success! Little by little.
Yesterday was Sunday. We did splits so that i could see the progress of one group. So i went to church in Tebangetua where they are so solid! Great church. My companion was supposed to lead the church in Toora (the only place with no group leader) while i was at the other church, because i set it up to where all 4 churches start at 10:00am. When i came back from the church i attended, ths church in Toora hadnt even started hahaha. I was like bro, why hasnt church started? But i cut him some slack because there was a funeral in our village of Toora, and bsically everyone follows. They funeral last like 3 days. (we didnt sleep for 3 days due to the party being 3 feet from our house.)
Sunday night we had a Karaurei (going away party) with our members in Bubutei. They made us flower head dresses and tons of food (they even got their hands on an apple and orange for us, idk how they did because they are only sold in tarawa and are soooo expensive) i felt well loved because they did so much for us. After we ate we played a bunch of group games which was sooo fun, and then after that was speeches. Several of my favorite people cried (my converts and less actives that came back while i was here) it was an awesome moment. I really love the people here, no matter how much stress they cause me hahahah.
Today we have 2 more Karaurei parties. And one tuesday morning. Basically i am just washing like crazy today and cleaning out our house and organizing things.
Oh i forgot, last week some members banana tree had a ton of bananas that were going ripe, so they told us, to go cut the whole branch of bananas off and it was all ours. So basically my diet this week was bananas all day hahaha. Love it.
Also i got a new bag this week. Island people are very good at making use of everything they can find and so i had a member lady make a scripture bag for me out of a rice bag hahah its a sweet looking bag!
Well next time i email i will be on Tarawa. Im pretty sure i will be able to Facetime you guys this week or next so prepare ur selfs. Mothers day call in August hahahah. Mom maybe you should email president and say tgat u heard im going to Tarawa ajd that you want ur mothers day call.
Love the work! Its frustrating and tiring,.but all worth it!
Much love,

ELDER TINGEY
