What
up Fam and Friends! Kamuara? How are yall?
Sorry for the short letter last week. Ill make this one a bit
longer.
So this week ive hit 2 full months in Kiribati now! Crazy how
time flies. My language is really coming a long. The Lord helps like crazy on
that one cuz he knows.i need to learn it fast.
So this weekend President Tune, one of President Larkin's
counselors as well as he is the president of.the Kiribati service center, came
out here to Maiana. President Tune is Kiribati. He first told us that he was
coming with 2 guys from Salt Lake and 1 guy from New Zealand and that it was
there first time to Kiribati so he wanted us to throw them a big party with
Kiribati dancing and everything. Might i add he told us this on thursday and he
wanted the party on Saturday night. So we hurried and hired a dancing crew ($50
out of our own pocket) and asked the our town if we could use the town Manieba
for our party. Then friday morning.he called us and told us that
only the guy from NZ was coming, then friday nivht he called us and told us
that the NZ guy canceled too so it was only going to be and his wife. We were
kind of mad due to us hiring expensive dancers only to have
Kiribati people come knowing they have seen a ton of dancing alresdy.
So then Pres Tune was supposed to come on saturday afternoon on
his speed boat to come to the party and stay the night for the party. Well his
phone died and apparently the boat wasnt working so we waited for him all day
and he didnt.come but we.still had to.have the party because we already hired
the cars and dancers. So basically we had a huge party for fun hahaha. It was
stressful and.we dropped a lot of money just for all the members here to have a
party. It was still pretty fun though, we got to dance with the members
haha.
Sunday morning President Tune finally came and he interviewed
all our melchezideck priesthood holders and also prospective elders. And then
we had a big combined church at 11:30.
We thought President Tune was going to set up the branch but he
didnt, he just came to check worthiness of priesthood holdera and also gave
them a little training. He also counseled us Elders on what we need to do
better to establish the church here. Haha it kind of felt a little like the
other side of heaven where the president comes and gets mad at the elder for
all the paper work he didnt fill out. Haha we werent that bad but we just need
to set the expectation for the church even higher now haha.
At church we had 74 people in attendance. 11 of which are
investigators and 10 MP holders. Thats by far our best numbers!! The church is
growing!
Also we had like 13 families pay tithing! People here have a
strong testimony of tithing.
Also in the car rides to church our members were singing hymns
the whole ride it was pretty awesome! And one village even had a musical number
in church!
Amongst all of this we had a baptism on saturday morning! An 18
year old boy (part pf the fam that got baptized last week) and he wants to
serve a mission! He is a stud! His name is Ngauea Kimaere.
Lastly foods this week: turtle, bananas, pumpkin, breadfruit,
papaya, papay, and my favorite coconuts.
My stomach basically hurt everyday these past 2 weeks and
finally stopped yesterday. Gotta love the mish haha.
My spiritual message this week is from this past April
conference (i have the magazine): From Elder L. Whitney Clayton's talk titles
"Whatsoever He Saith unto You, Do it" he says "God will
always bless us for our steadfast obedience to His gospel and loyalty to His
Church, but He rarely shows us His timetable for doing so in advance. He doesn't
show us the whole picture from the outset. That is where faith, hope, and
trusting in the Lord come in"
Solid quotation.
Love you all from here in Kiribati,
Elder Tingey
Ps. Roosters are the worst, they always wake me up sooo early
